“Get ready for an unforgettable night of Brazilian music as the band Hoje Tem Samba brings the joyful tradition of the roda de samba to Seattle. Started by musician Matheus “Bigo” Mendes (banjo), and joined by the incredibly talented Cleiton Castro (cavaquinho), Carole Peterson (tantan), Will (pandeiro), and Ana Paula MacArthur (shaker), Hoje Tem Samba recreates the intimate, communal spirit of a traditional roda — musicians gathered together, playing and singing, while the audience claps, dances, and sings along. This special edition welcomes visiting percussionists John Jenness, Sue Firpo, and Peter Fung from Portland, Oregon, adding even more rhythm to the celebration.
Joining the roda as guest vocalist is Seattle native Emy Tseng, who blends bossa nova and samba into a sound all her own. Emy has shared her music at Seattle’s BrasilFest and the Sounds of Brazil Festival near Washington, DC. Together, these musicians promise a night of authentic Brazilian rhythm, warmth, and community — so wear comfortable shoes and come dance with us!”
