*David Locke, accordionist
Beginning with accordion lessons at age 9, David Locke achieved his childhood dream of becoming an organist. He graduated with degrees in church music from St. Olaf College and Northwestern University. In his many years as organist and choirmaster he has served over twenty churches, continuing with organist duties at historic Coupeville United Methodist Church.Having traveled a scenic route through life, including guiding tours at Hearst Castle, driving trucks on the Alaska highway, and a few years in computer software development, he is now retired on Whidbey Island.In recent years the accordion has returned to the center of his life as a musician. For fifteen years he appeared in Folklife festivals with the band Allspice, as well as at Brazilfest with the Island Choro Society. He played weekly for seven years at Useless Bay Coffee Company of Langley, WA. He appears annually at the Leavenworth International Accordion Conference, and at the Day of the Accordion, in addition to featured performances at meetings of the Northwest Accordion Society, and numerous private parties throughout the region.Most recently, he has been invited to present a program of World Folk Music for the Sno-Isle Library association, and has recently been recruited as accordionist for the famous Shifty Sailors, of Whidbey Island.
